Insomniatic Ramblings

Sitting in my hotel room in Andover, Massachusetts. Just sitting, browsing the web on my laptop, alternating between sites dedicated to teaching me new ideas, and trolling through mindless entertainment in the nooks and crannies of the web.

It was a lazy Saturday. I made the mistake of taking a midday nap, thinking that I would be up in an hour or so. Four hours went by with my head buried under the covers. Finally I awoke, readied myself, and went out to enjoy dinner and a movie. By myself, of course, but that's nothing new...

Now I'm back at the hotel, sitting. Between websites I look at the bed longingly, wishing that I could fall into a deep, restful sleep; but that type of sleep alludes me - even when I don't sacrifice four hours on the alter of insomnia early in the day.

At least I can anticipate the week ahead. A short workweek capped off by a drive down to Baltimore to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Time to try to sleep. Maybe I can read myself tired, and doze with a book on my nose.

Days of Wine and Transitions

'They' say that life is a journey; focus on the trip, not the destination. I've been focused on the current stage of my travels for the past seven years, ever since I moved to Seattle at the peak of the tech bubble and found myself underneath that bubble when it burst. It was messy...

Fast-forward almost a decade, and here I stand, ready to transition to the next phase of my trip. The final stops on my current leg lay before me; a final exam, a report, and Graduation this weekend. I'm looking forward to moving on, and yet a part of me isn't ready. There is so much more to learn, so much more I could do here. Yet that time has passed.

I don't know where this leg of my journey will take me, but I hope it will be as entertaining and educational as the leg that I complete this week.

Unknown Binding?!?

So I had to buy a textbook for one of my classes. I visit Amazon, search for the book, and find it available at $86.17. Reading the fine print, I notice there's another version of the book available for $57.33. It has no picture, and is listed as having "Unknown Binding."

What exactly is "Unknown Binding" ? I'm about to find out, since I couldn't see wasting the extra $30 if the book turns out to be the same. I just can't shake the impression that I'll get the book and it will be bound in human flesh, or bound with goat intestines or somesuch.

If that's the case, guess I could try to sell it for more on eBay ;)
